With no Universal Championship on Raw since it’s holder Brock Lesnar is AWOL, the focal point of Monday nights is currently Dean Ambrose’s Intercontinental title. Tonight on Raw The Lunatic Fringe will defend that prestigious belt against number one contender, The Miz. The two rivals have been butting heads ever since they both arrived on Raw following the Superstar Shakeup and last week The A Lister was standing tall after he had Bray Wyatt do his bidding. It’ll be down to Miz to stop Ambrose alone tonight though, with a possible helping hand from Maryse, with a win meaning he’ll be a seven time Intercontinental Champion.
Samoa Joe arrived on Raw the day after this year’s Royal Rumble. Since then he has been on a vendetta to sideline Seth Rollins. Joe’s aim to keep The Architect out of WrestleMania was failure and that has only fuelled him to try harder to hurt Seth. Two weeks ago he stopped Rollins becoming number one contender to the Intercontinental title and last week got disqualified in a match between them in favour of trying to do some permanent damage. Seth needs a game plan to stop The Destroyer once and for all and we may seem the wheels of that plan put into motion tonight.
Despite Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns both suffering from injuries inflicted by each other, we saw both men on Raw in London last week. Roman very much got some revenge on Braun, interrupting The Monster Among Men’s beatdown of Kalisto to do some more damage. It’s looking unlikely that Braun will be on Raw for a few weeks but you never know, plus what will Roman Reigns do to occupy his time if he recovers quicker than his giant foe.
Alexa Bliss is not only a great wrestler and talker, but she’s also smart. One of the main reasons she’s the first woman to hold both the Raw and SmackDown women’s titles is because she always makes sure someone has her back. On SmackDown Live it was Mickie James and now on Raw it’s the formidable Nia Jax. Eventually Nia will want that title but for now her and Bliss are allies, and I imagine tonight on Raw we may see that pairing up against former champ Bayley and Alexa’s former friend, Mickie James.
Last week in London Sheamus and Cesaro managed to overcome four of their fellow tag teams to once again become number one contenders to the Raw Tag Team Championships. The European pairing tried and failed to win The Hardy Boyz gold while playing nice, but now they’ve got an edge to them maybe that they’ll have more success. As it stands the title shot won’t be on tonight’s show, but you can rest assured this ongoing rivalry between the two teams will be furthered when Raw returns to the United States this evening.
